The Oklahoma School for the Blind Clinic is open Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. A licensed nurse is on
call during the hours the clinic is closed. The nurse may be contacted at home or by pager. Duties of Medical Services: 1......Assure health services for each student. 2......Prepare annual assessment, schedule student physicals for athletic participation and Special Olympics physicals
as indicated. 3......Keep parents notified by telephone, letters, etc. of child's illnesses, diagnoses, and need for medications and
treatment. 4......Administer medications as ordered by physician. 5......Package medication for trips and home going. 6......Provide first aid kits on request. 7......Prepare children for physician's visit and assist the physician during the exam. 8......Arrange transportation for off campus physician's visit. 9......Provide nursing services for overnight trips as indicated. 10....Monitor ill students in the clinic and dorms. 11....Order medication and supplies as needed. 12....Review immunization records to adhere to immunization guideline set by the Oklahoma School Immunization
law.
Medical services is directly responsible to the director of Student Assessment Services administratively and to the
physician professionally. Medical services is directed by a full-time R.N. All nursing staff are currently licensed in
the State of Oklahoma and abide by the rules and regulations of the State board on Nursing registration and
Education. Nursing staff also adheres to the procedures of the Department of Oklahoma Rehabilitative Services.
