The Department of Assessment and Related Services has been reorganized to include all full time and contract personnel who provide related services to students at OSB. These staff also provides assessment and related services to students throughout the state of Oklahoma via the Outreach Department.
The staff includes the director who is the school psychologist, orientation and mobility specialists, the speech and language department, social services, and the independent living skills program. Staff provides for the identification, evaluation, and placement, and education of students who are blind and visually impaired, preschool through high school, within an interdisciplinary team framework.
The department provides, in cooperation with the school superintendent and principals, the coordination of programs during the school day in professional areas which include psychological, social services, psycho-educational assessment, speech and language therapy, audiological services, the communication program, physical and occupational therapy, and independent living skills. The staff also provides in-service training to other joint divisional services as needed, which include student staffing with members of the I.E.P. team, working with O.S.B. staff and parents to secure their input in participation and planning the implementation of needed services. The department provides consultation as requested to staff, O.S.B. parents, and other school systems throughout the state of Oklahoma. They work with other agencies to identify and coordinate related services opportunities. The department assists with student career planning, serving as liaison with post secondary training centers and works directly with local VR counselors in cooperation with state rehabilitative services.
The organization of this department has provided not only better communication between staff in the department, but also has allowed the team to better recognize overall needs of the students that we serve. We look forward to a great year of improved service. For information, contact Mrs. Sterling toll-free (877) 229-7136.
