OSB Family,

Oklahoma School for the Blind is committed to provide a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff.  This applies to all aspects of health and safety, including illness such as the flu and recent cases of coronavirus (COVID -19).   OSB has been increasing our sanitation activities, both in school and vehicles, and continually monitoring reports and receiving guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) , Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH), Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE), and Department of Rehabilitation Services (DRS).

Due to the unforeseen future concerning the coronavirus (COVID-19), school work packets and/or iPads have been sent home due to the possibility of extending spring break an additional week. At this time school is still in session March 23-26; however, you will be contacted if there are changes.

If your child has a fever anytime Saturday, March 21 or Sunday, March 22, he/she should not ride routes or return to school. In this event, please call OSB office on Monday, March 23 to inform school officials regarding your child’s health.

Please adhere to the following travel guidance:

Individuals returning from travel to China, South Korea, Italy, Iran, Japan or any other Level 2 or 3 countries as identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) should self-quarantine for a period of 14 calendar days before returning to school. This applies to all students, teachers, and other school or district staff.

At this time, public health officials are advising U.S. travelers to avoid cruise travel to and within Asia. Updated travel advisories can be found at ncov/travelers/index.html.

For returning travelers from Level 2 or 3 countries, the CDC recommends:

  1. Please let your administrator/school know if you are returning from one of these locations.
  2. Take your temperature with a thermometer two times a day and monitor for fever. Also, watch for a cough or trouble breathing.
  3. Stay home and avoid contact with others. Do not go to work or school for 14 days. Discuss your work situation with your district before returning to work or school.
  4. Avoid crowded places (such as shopping centers and movie theaters) and limit your activities in public.
  5. Keep your distance from others (about 6 feet).

In the event you have flu-like symptoms, please stay home. Health Department officials and the CDC have warned people against “powering through” and going to work or school sick. Limiting exposure is the most effective tool for combatting the flu and Coronavirus (COVID-19).

While flu season is still ongoing, we encourage our students, staff, and families to be mindful of key preventive measures. Please encourage everyone to practice good habits, including:

  1. Wash your hands regularly, especially after using the restroom and before preparing or consuming food. Using soap and hot water, wash for about 20 seconds. Be sure to also wash your fingertips.
  2. Avoid coughing or sneezing into your hands or in the air. Always try to cough or sneeze into a tissue, and then throw the tissue away. If you don’t have a tissue, cough/sneeze into your arm.
  3. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose.
  4. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  5. If children are feeling sick, please keep them home from school.

To find accurate, Oklahoma-specific information on COVID-19, please visit the OSDH website at  More information is also available on the Center for Disease Control website at treatment.html.

We will continue to monitor the situation and make informative decisions based on what is best for students and staff. Thank you for your careful attention to student and staff safety! We appreciate your efforts and look forward to returning to school happy and healthy.

Enjoy your Spring Break!
